If you are no longer eligible for protected or winter customer status, you can request "guaranteed supply". This allows you to be supplied with gas and electricity directly by Sibelga at the social rate for one year.

Guaranteed supply is designed to be used in the most critical situations.

Am I eligible?

You can apply for guaranteed supply when you are no longer able to take out an energy contract with a commercial supplier for various reasons: old debts, disconnection or risk of disconnection.

Conditions of eligibility

You must be in one of the following situations:

  • your meter has been disconnected due to non-payment;
  • OR you are in debt to at least 2 suppliers.

How do I apply?

  • Guaranteed supply can only be requested through your CPAS.
  • The CPAS will conduct an investigation into your circumstances to check whether your household meets the eligibility criteria.

What are the terms and conditions?

  • Guaranteed supply is provided by Sibelga and billed at the social rate set by the federal authorities.
  • Guaranteed supply is granted for 12 months, with a possibility of extension.

What happens after the 12 months are up?

Guaranteed supply is a temporary solution to find a last resort supply. This is a sufficient period of time for you to find a solution and return to a commercial supplier as quickly as possible.

Each year, you will have to provide proof to the CPAS that you still meet the eligibility criteria. They will then notify Sibelga.

Meter disconnection

The meters will be disconnected at the end of the guaranteed supply period if:

  • You have not taken out a contract with a commercial supplier;
  • AND your entitlement to guaranteed supply has not been renewed.

Your supply can never be cut off during winter period.

Sibelga sends you a registered letter to inform you of the expiry of your right to guaranteed supply, its possible renewal or the possible cut-off of the meters.

Note

Sibelga may refuse the guaranteed supply (or its renewal) if you have a debt of €300 or more with Sibelga and no reasonable debt repayment plan has been agreed for this debt.
