Since the end of 2023. Smart meters are being actively deployed in Brussels. The aim is to equip 80% of Brussels residents with these innovative devices by 2030. Sibelga is committed to supporting property managers with this major roll-out.
What is a smart meter?
Unlike the traditional electromechanical meter, the smart meter is a digital device that measures, records and can communicate electricity consumption and production in real time.
The deployment of smart meters in Brussels is a crucial step towards more efficient and sustainable energy management.
Advantages of smart meters
- Detailed monitoring of electricity consumption via the LCD display, the P1 port of the My Sibelga app.
- Measurement of electricity injection (e.g. for solar panels).
- Access to new services such as connecting smart devices.
When will the old meter be replaced?
We systematically replace meters in the following cases:
- When installing solar panels;
- When installing charging points;
- When creating an energy community;
- When replacing old meters.
You can also ask for your old meter to be replaced free of charge.
NB: There is a charge for installing a smart meter for new electrical connections (new buildings) or adding an extra meter.
Principle of indivisibility in blocks of flats
In a block of flats, it is important to note that smart meters cannot be installed individually. If one of the owners wishes to benefit from this, all the meters in the block of flats must be replaced.
How do I get it installed?
Installing smart meters in a block of flats requires consultation with all the co-owners. Building management therefore has an essential role to play.
