A limited measure
Some municipalities recently introduced a tax on on-street public charging stations. At present, only the municipalities of Ixelles and Saint-Gilles have introduced this tax. Each municipality is free to decide how to apply it.
Am I affected by this tax?
Don’t worry if you have charging stations that are accessible to the public but located on private land, such as a company or supermarket car park.
This tax only applies to:
- on-street public charging stations;
- charging points up to 22 kW.
How much is the tax?
The tax is €281 in Ixelles and €180 in Saint-Gilles. A preliminary agreement between the 19 Brussels municipalities proposes harmonising the price at €125 per charging point, i.e. €250 per charging station (one charging station has 2 charging points). No formal agreement has yet been reached.
Why this tax?
The aim is to remunerate local authorities for providing charging points in public spaces.
Competitive rates
Despite this tax, the price per kWh in Brussels is still competitive compared with the other regions.
The current impact on the charging rate is less than €0.01/kWh.
If a tax of €125 were to be applied to each charging point installed on the public space, the impact on the recharging rate is estimated at €0.017/kWh.
