MobiClick: accelerating the energy transition of public fleets in Brussels

The Brussels-Capital Region has set ambitious climate and air quality targets: to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and ban the circulation of combustion engine vehicles from 2035. Given these ambitions, public authorities are expected to set an example.

Obligations to 2030

From 1 January 2025, all public authorities in Brussels, whether regional or local, will only be able to buy or lease "zero-emission" cars and MPVs (multi-purpose vehicles). They will also be required to install charging stations for electric vehicles in car parks.  Indeed, from 2025: 10% of spaces in office car parks will have to be equipped with charging stations, compared to 5% for public car parks. This number will double from 2030.

It is in this context that the Brussels-Capital Region and Sibelga have launched the MobiClick project, a central purchasing unit to help public authorities green their fleets of utility vehicles. Through this project, they can in particular purchase:

  • Utility vehicles;
  • Electric charging stations (installation, connection and maintenance included).

What are the benefits for public authorities?

  • Time saving: rationalise resources, lighten the administrative load associated with setting up a public procurement contract, selecting suppliers, etc.
  • Money saving: prices are negotiated for grouped purchases
  • Quality guarantee: benefit from the most efficient vehicles on the automotive market today, meeting current emission standards;
  • Complete follow-up: coordination by Sibelga of all phases of a charging station installation project, from the expression of need to commissioning, between the beneficiary public authority and the contractor;
  • Training: specialised training in the use of charging stations and of the management platform.

MobiClick is already:

  • 54 Brussels public authority members
  • 16 types of electric and CNG vehicles updated each year
  • 181 charging stations installed on 25 sites
  • 28 projects under way for the installation of electric charging stations
  • 50 utility vehicles

In conclusion, MobiClick is playing a key role in supporting Brussels public authorities towards carbon neutrality, facilitating the transition to low-carbon vehicles and infrastructure. Thanks to its efforts, the Brussels-Capital Region is making great strides towards its zero-emission targets.
